OOFOS Partners with Special Olympics New Jersey

For the second year in a row, OOFOS is proud to be partnering with the Special Olympics New Jersey to support the athletes who participated in the recent Summer Games and the New Jersey team competing at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games this month.

The relationship between OOFOS and Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) came to fruition because OOFOS Recovery Panel advisor Dr. Rob Conenello is also the Clinical Director of the Special Olympics New Jersey.

SONJ serves approximately 25,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) across the state of New Jersey. It started as a sports organization, but has grown to provide much more than competition to the participating athletes. Special Olympics International is actually the largest health care provider in the world for individuals with ID, and New Jersey was one of the first programs to be recognized as a Healthy Community.

One of the components of being a Healthy Community is providing free health screenings to athletes through the Healthy Athletes program. Special Olympics New Jersey offers screenings in podiatry, audiology, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, health education and physical examinations. Dr. Rob oversees the podiatry program, called Fit Feet, throughout the state.

SONJ’s largest health screening event occurs at the Summer Games each year, where 2,500 athletes compete in bocce, track & field, softball, swimming, powerlifting, gymnastics, and tennis.

This year at SONJ’s Summer Games, Dr. Rob was able to screen 332 athletes over the course of two days and refer 61 of these athletes for additional follow up care.

We at OOFOS feel honored and privileged to provide sandals for the athletes in the Fit Feet program, so that after an athlete completes their screening with Dr. Rob, they receive a pair.  Our mission is to “make yOO feel better,” both because our product truly makes people recover faster and feel better, and because we strive to treat people in a way that makes them feel better.

After competing in the Games, these Special Olympic athletes truly earn their OOFOS and benefit greatly from the recovery benefits that our footwear provides. Foot health is important, and the foot screenings that athletes receive at the Summer Games and the long-term benefits that OOFOS will continue to bring them after the Games are over can truly be game changers for them… no pun intended.

This is OOFOS’ second year outfitting SONJ athletes with our sandals and helping to support their recovery efforts. Seeing the difference that we can make in the lives of hundreds of athletes continues to drive us towards our mission of making as many people as we can feel better.
